06 Dec 2025 - Austin Shen
It felt like I spent all of 2025 training for this event - the Busselton Ironman 70.3. Here are a few photos of key training days in the lead up, and play-by-play shots of how the day itself went down.
Lance's 'Z2 easy' hills ride. We were out for 6 hours, climbed 2 km elevation, didn't get coffee until 4 hrs in, 3 L sweat loss and 2k calories burnt :)
Beach swims at Cottesloe from the pillar to the sea wall - a weekday morning regular in summer
The race simulation BRIC (bike run in combination). A tough morning pushing pretty fast on the bike and then running pretty fast after
Shake out ride the day before the event in Dunsborough along the coast
A silly pose on race morning to lift up spirits
At the starting line
Off we go! In the water
Transition 2 - off the bike and onto the run. Matt and I were basically alongside each other the entire ride and managed to enter T2 together
Legs feeling it on the run - at this point I was still going strong
Finishing - sick photo of Kev crossing the line!
Lots to celebrate together :) All of us hit our time goals, minimal cramping or other issues, made some new memories together, and most importantly had a great time
A swim at Yallingup beach to relax
The whole crew! Would not have been possible without everybody there, I think they put in a shift as hard as us racing with the amount of running around and sun exposure before and during the event
